Today I Love #10

How am I already up to the tenth post for this series?! Time really does fly when you're having fun. I have been blogging for ten months so I guess it makes sense. Before cracking on with this post I would like to ask for your much appreciated advice. I have a haul post coming up in the next week or two however I am thinking of making it into a video lookbook style haul - what do you think? I am currently home from uni for the Easter holidays so if you follow me on Instagram, I'm apologising in advance for all the Ralph the 'fluffy sheep-like' dog photos!

Coral & Mint - When walking around the shops, these are the colours that catch my eye at the moment. The colours remind me that spring has arrived and the days are now longer! If you haven't seen my Mint coloured wishlist then click here. On Instagram I recently posted a photo of my new coral satchel and plimsoles which were a total bargain from Primark.

Chocolate - Since I've started my holidays, it feels like it's already Easter. Thankfully the shops also think it's Easter too so all the chocolate eggs are just asking to be eaten. For anyone wanting to by me an Easter egg, I like all those ones that aren't snickers or anything with peanuts. Thanks ;)

The Musketeers - This BBC 1 drama has to be on my love list. Tom and I are really into this show and I definitely recommend it for its decent story lines, comedic value and its array of great actors. The last episode of the series aired on Sunday but hopefully you'll still be able to catch up!

John Legend - I really like his song All of Me. The music video is seriously cute too. Check it out and let me know what you think!

2048 - If you don't understand what these numbers mean, it is the name of an app. It's a really addictive game that Tom introduced me too and I would love to explain how it works but it's one of those things you have to play yourself to understand what's happening. It's some sort of number logical game thingy... It's free so download it and blame me if you become obsessed with it.

My YouTube Channel

On a bit of a whim I decided to set up my very own YouTube channel the other day. Well I set one up on Sunday and managed to break it by Friday and had to start again. I blame Google+ and my stupidity - but mainly Google.. Finally I'm happy with how its set up and I reloaded my Co-op Food Hack video as quickly as possible.

I basically just jumped onto YouTube with little to no introduction. Because of this I thought my next video should explain decision to start filming videos and a chance to share a bit about myself. It's like an AA meeting except nothing like an AA meeting if you know what I mean...

Quite a few bloggers have started making videos and it wasn't going to be long till I jumped on the bandwagon. Since getting my beloved iPad, I have been playing about with recording and purchased iMovie. Anyone planning on making videos should seriously consider investing in this app/software. I can't believe how easy it is to use and my friends and family have said how professional my first video looked.

Please let me know what you think of this video and whether or not I should continue with this endeavor. If you have any ideas for future videos or have your own channel, get in contact as I'd love to hear from you!

Best Apps for Students

Since getting my iPad a few weeks ago, I really think I've been using it to its full potential. Firstly let me apologise to my friends who have been listening to me yap on about how amazing my tablet is everyday. I thought, instead of annoying them about the amazing apps I've found, I should annoy you lovely readers. My first lot of apps I want to recommend to you are based on education. I was tempted to show you all the fun games you can play during lectures but I through showing you actual academically enhancing apps would benefit you a lot more! So here are my top 3 apps for Students:

3. Prezi
For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of discovering this website/app, this is Prezi. It's a twist on the boring powerpoint, making your work into a spectacular animated presentation. I've used it for all my presentations at uni with year and it's definitely helped me gain a few extra marks! I would advise setting up a Prezi account and doing your presentations on a computer. The actual editing part of the app isn't very good but it's a great way of looking at presentations. I had to include Prezi when talking about ways to make University work more fun and a bit easier - give it a try and let me know what you think!

2. Dropbox
This software is a serious lifesaver. Because of Dropbox I haven't used a USB stick in a very long time. It's place where you can save your photos, documents and other files on the Internet and access them from any computer, tablet or phone. All my uni work is saved onto dropbox so when my computer is playing up (which is too often), I can just pop over the library, grab a computer and continue from where I last saved my work. I now have Dropbox as an app on my iPad. Instead of having to print off my work for seminars, I can now read and edit things there and then. You'll never lose a piece of work again thanks to Dropbox.

1. Notability
I can't begin to praise this app enough. It is by far the most useful app I own for academic purposes. I can save pdf files and presentations to notability and organise them into appropriate folders. The best thing about this app is the fact you can annotate everything. You can highlight key words in an academic article, draw on presentations and even add your own extra text boxes. Since getting my iPad, I use this app in all my lectures. I load up the presentation so I can annotate it and if it's a complex topic, I'll record the whole lecture. Yes, this app lets you record while you annotate so you can relive that lecture that you were too tired to really pay attention in!

I hope you found my recommendations useful. What apps have you found particularly useful when it comes to work?

At first I was incredibly confused by this trend. From what I saw, people were raising awareness for cancer by posting a photo of themselves on Facebook without make-up. I didn't like the idea that people were using the c word to get likes on their Facebook statuses. It just seemed attention seeking and slightly disrespectful. I felt people were saying that posting a 'make-up less' face was a big deal - just like suffering from cancer is. However a bit later on Wednesday I saw people posting their donations alongside their selfies. For me this was what the campaign was really about!

#NoMakeUpSelfie donate via text to Cancer Research UK

I read an article thanking the trend for raising over £1 million in 24 hours. It's amazing what the power of social media can achieve!! So it's not really about the selfie- it's about the money people should be donating once nominated! Yes, people should be donating money anyway and yes shouldn't have to be done to show everyone BUT it's working. Cancer Research UK wouldn't have had over £1 million in donations in less than 24 hours without this very clever and inspirational campaign. People have been doing creative things to raise money for charity for decades. From getting in a bath tub of baked beans to non-school uniform days! Cancer is a topic close to everyone's heart. It affects everyone; whether you are personally a victim to the vicious disease, are close to someone fighting the battle or have tragically lost loved ones because of it. That's why it is so important to raise and donate money to help beat cancer.

A photo of yourself with no make-up on and a small donation to Cancer Research UK is making a difference. Kudos to whoever started the campaign! Too often the Internet and social media are seen in a bad light because of cyber bullying, lack of privacy and dodgy sites promoting god knows what. It's great to see such an influential medium being used to good.

So I've done my selfie and donated! However I know this isn't enough to combat cancer. I'm a proud supporter of the Race for Life and I really want to become more active in the anthropology field. If you have yet to donate: I nominate you!! Tag me (@kayspray) in your Instagram #nomakeupselfie

Text BEAT to 70007 to donate £3 to Cancer Research UK

What are your views on the new trend? I'd love to hear your thoughts so please leave your links with the comments below x

Minty Fresh

This is a port about the items I am seriously lusting over for spring. With such glorious weather it's hard not to get excited about all the colours dotted around the high street. One colour that catches my eye every time I'm out and about is mint. It just keeps luring me into shops and I'm finding it so hard to resist buying a nice satchel or some casual sandals during my spending ban! Without future stalling, here are my favourite mint coloured items currently on the high street.

1. New Look Mint Jersey Pencil Skirt - I would team this pencil skirt with a white vest top and some other the top statement necklace. It's the sort of item you could easily make formal or casual. Perfect for a wedding, a pub garden or working lunch!
2. ASOS Envelope Purse - I love a purse that I can use as a clutch bag and fit a few essentials in for my day/night out. There is nothing worse than carrying a heavy bag when all you need is some money, keys, phone and a lipstick.
3. Topshop Nails in Gone Fishing - I need to go out and get some suitable spring nail colours. It doesn't seem long ago that I was excited about all the dark, rich berry red tones for the winter months.
4. Forever 21 Retro Sunglasses - I wear sunglasses throughout the year. If it's sunny outside, I have a pair ready for the occasion! My favourite style is definitely the more retro look. I can't get over how much I love these shades in this colour.
5. ASOS Faithless Leather Sandals - It's soon time to get our feet out of hibernation. If anyone is about to ask: No you can never have too many pairs of sandals. I like these leather ones as they are simple and would look great paired with skinny jeans or bare legs!

What colours are you loving for this spring? I've mentioned numerous times about my love for the pastels but those bright block coloured items are also on my radar. It's typical that you want to buy everything you see when you're doing your best to save some pennies!

The Cooperative Food Hack Challenge

Haven't you heard? Co-op now offer a 10% discount to all NUS card holders! This is a victory for most students as chances are you live pretty close to one or many of their stores. To celebrate their partnership with NUS, they got in touch with me and set me a very fun challenge....

The very generous people at the Co-operative Food sent me a very lovely basket. My challenge was to make chocolate bowls - very easy for most people.  I had to have quite a few attempts at this challenge because typically I didn't look for any instructions on the Internet - it all seemed a bit too obvious. I can't get over what a fail the first batch were.. Fortunately I was able to remelt the chocolate and try again. For normal people with a hint of common sense, you'd see this as a quick and easy food hack. I wish I was one of those people!
I decided to make my first ever YouTube video to explain how to make the chocolate bowls. Me and my house mates had muchos fun making the video so I hope you enjoy!

So what food hacks do you use? Please tag me in your Instagram or Twitter pics if you try the challenge - Good Luck!

iPad 3

Last weekend I got an iPad 3. I had been thinking about getting one for a while and since my boyfriend started working at CEX, I realised how cheaply I could get a pretty decent one. I can't get over how perfect mine is for the cost of it! I'm a very lucky girl.

I bought it mainly because my laptop is being a lot of effort at the moment. I can now use the iPad for all my fun bits and bobs, like catching up on TV, blogging, online shopping, games, social media and so many other things. I've taken it to all my lectures and seminars this week and it's been insanely useful. I'm sure my friends are getting tired of me raving on about it 24/7.

Due to this recent obsession, I have quite a few 'favourite apps' posts coming your way - so stay tuned! If you're wondering what I've been doing this week: I've been guarding this precious device with my life while a nice case and screen protectors are on their way, checking out some awesome apps & using photobooth to take hilarious photos of my friends!

Are you thinking about getting on the tablet trend? Let me know what you think about this digital wonder and I'd love your recommendations of your favourite apps.

I had a bit of a blogging detox this week. It was nice to take a step back and reassess how I feel about this blog. I'm so happy with how it's been going and how amazing you lovely readers are! If I wasn't so busy juggling with uni and a social life, I would blog a lot more. However variety is the spice of life and I'm not the type of person who can only focus on one thing at a time!

Another reason I've been M.I.A is thanks for my laptop. It's in such a mood with me at the moment. I have to sit in a certain position with the laptop held at a particular angle just to make sure it is charging... I'm currently sitting on my bed with the charger being held in place by a cushion!

I've been super busy the past week with starting an internship with the Portsmouth Community Safety Partnership and spending some much needed time hanging out with friends. Even though I just gave in some deadlines, there are more to come for the end of March! After a bit of a break this week, it's time to crack on with some more essays, presentations and a daunting literature review for my dissertation proposal.

So I took a break to sort my life out and get a bit of inspiration and motivation to continue this blog. Sometimes having to keep to a schedule makes it seem like a chore and this is meant to be my favourite hobby. Speaking of hobbies, I started going to the gym on Monday. I know - I laughed too. It all started when I saw some fashionable sports wear on the Forever 21 website and had to find an excuse to wear it. The aim is to have Beyonce's body by bikini season - watch this space!

I've got quite a few exciting blog ventures coming up this month so I hope you enjoy it all. I'm not sure whether I'll continue the #StudentLinkUp so we will see how things go for now.

Thanks for continuing to be such loyal readers and let me know if you have anything you want me to write about in the near future!

Review: Sleek's Blush by 3 Palette

I have wanted this blush palette from Sleek palette as soon as it was released and grabbed it as soon as I found it in Superdrug. I'm so happy to finally have the chance to review it! There hasn't been a make-up day since buying it that I haven't used it. It's my first ever cream blush palette so I had no clue whether or not I'd enjoy using it and if it would even suit me... Spoiler alert: I love it!

I bought Sleek's Blush by 3 palette called Californ.I.A. What first got me interested in this product was the corals and pinks that I know will be perfect as spring starts to come around. The colours from left to right are called: OC, The Surf and Newport Peach. My favourite colours, which I am wearing in the photographs, are a blend of both OC and The Surf. I use The Surf as a highlighter as it is such a shimmery shade.

The main worry when buying a cream blush for the first time was how on earth to apply it! After watching a few Youtube tutorials, I found the best technique for me is to dab it onto the area I want covered until it blends. It's so easy to use once you get the hang of it and it's a really buildable product. You can create a natural finish or a totally dramatic look just using this palette. I personally prefer a subtle blush and often set it with some translucent powder.

The swatches above from top to bottom are: Newport Beach, The Surf and OC. I think the whole packaging and mirror with the palette makes it look pretty expensive. It didn't take me long to get used to this product and quickly fall head over heels for it. It is seriously pigmented and I only use a swipe of it each time I use it. In the colder months I've found using a cream blusher helps stop my skin becoming too dry and patchy. The cream is quite moisturising and from my experience this helps it stay on for a lot longer than a powder would. I also find that I don't need any highlighter on top of this product. It gives the perfect amount of shimmer for a fresh natural look.

Have you tried this product yet? If you love cream blushers or have yet to try them, I recommend Sleek's Blush by 3 Palette because it's a quick and easy way to get a natural finish. Let me know what you think of this review and if there are any other products you recommend!
